Harvesting on the machair
Harvesting on the machair
Stooks and stacks of barley on the machair at Drimsdale. Traditional farming practices have been maintained on the Outer Hebrides due to the thin soil that is too weak for large machinery and especially environmental payments for Corncrake friendly farming, this being their last stronghold in the UK.
