NT2776 : Queen Charlotte Rooms doorway

near to Leith, Edinburgh, Great Britain

Queen Charlotte Rooms doorway
Queen Charlotte Rooms doorway
A fascinating doorway with the unmistakable emblems of the Canongate (or more specifically Holyrood) and Leith, namely a stag's head with a cross between the antlers and a sailing ship. It appears to have been Lodge No.5, but I'm not sure of the significance of the dates: 1688 suggests an organisation recalling the 'Glorious Revolution' of that year, and 1922 could possibly be a date connected with the lodge being moved to this building.
