taken 6 years ago, near to Shotton, Northumberland, Great Britain

North cairn, Coldsmouth Hill
North cairn, Coldsmouth Hill
The cairn is modern but uses the stones from a large Bronze Age Burial Cairn defined by an outer ring of boulders about 15m in diameter. It was excavated in 1930. There was a burial cist in the centre containing bones and a flint saw. The base of a bronze knife-dagger was found nearby, dating the cairn to c1800-1600
