Barby: Medieval ridge and furrow field patterns
Barby: Medieval ridge and furrow field patterns
Viewed from the Oxford Canal, this is just one of several fields along the west side of Barby Hill that exhibit medieval ridge and furrow field patterns. The flat land in the foreground probably also had the pattern but the ground was probably disturbed during the building of the canal in the 1770s. The original cut was along a contour hugging loop now lost by the 1820s straightening.
