Mablethorpe wind turbine, aerial 2006
One of the first wind farms in this area, it started with a couple of turbines here at the Mile Lane Sewage Works.
But like Topsy it grew and grew. In 2004 a further 8 turbines sprang up next to these (this site had a new name: Bambers Farm). As if that weren't enough for Ecotricity, in 2006 it managed to get permission for a further 6 turbines on this site (Bambers Farm II).
Ecotricity then moved on and only a few miles further up the road erected an even bigger windfarm on Conisholme Fen. It is now planning another a few miles along from that at Tetney.
Ecotricity must be doing well from the government subsidies: it has sponsored the development of a vehicle which has broken the land speed record for an electric car, and is currently paying 25 a head to a "green" organisation for every new customer signed up to its energy supply.
