A weir on the River Sirhowy
This is just before the river passes under a bridge carrying the A465 Heads of the Valleys road which is casting its shadow across the weir.
The weir was constructed in 1796 in order to supply water via a leat to the Sirhowy Ironworks Link
.
This viewpoint was often used for a picture of the Nine Arches Viaduct which is now obscured by the trees Link
.

With the dualling of the A465, a new bridge is about to be constructed at this point.

Dualling A465 road from Brynmawr to Tredegar
The A465 between Abergavenny and Neath connects the northern ends of the South Wales valleys and is therefore commonly known as the Heads of the Valleys road.
It is planned to improve the whole of this road up to dual 2-lane standard by 2020.
Compulsory purchase orders for the Brynmawr to Tredegar section were issued in August 2012 and the work is scheduled to be completed in early 2015. For most of this section, the existing A465 will be replaced by a new road to the north.
