Spondon's Nuclear Bunker
In the 1960s at the height of the Cold War bunkers were built around the country to be used as observation posts in the event of nuclear war. The idea was that a small squad of observers would man the bunker and be able to report on the state of the locality back to central control. They had enough supplies to last a few days but after that it was a case of every man for himself. The bunkers gradually fell into disrepair over the years. There are probably some remains still in this one and there are groups of enthusiasts who do go and explore them and document what is left. Apparently this one was used into the 1980s by some amateur radio enthusiasts.
