Approaching Painswick Beacon
Approaching Painswick Beacon
Walkers are skylined exploring the hillfort while a group of golfers patiently wait for me to plod uphill before taking their tee-shots.

I often have cause to be impressed by or thankful for the courtesy and friendliness of the golfing fraternity. They might wear the direst garb, adhere to the most baffling and pointless of all possible leisure pursuits and spend a fortune on the latest driver (whatever that is) and never tire of telling you about this, but, having tramped across many a fairway in various counties under the gaze of a wide assortment of male and lady golfers I am often put to shame by their acceptance of my strange passion, often alarming appearance and hobo-like gait and their warmth, good manners, good humour and smart dress code.
