Hedon Haven Clough
Hedon Haven Clough
Prior to the establishment of Kingston upon Hull as a major city, Hedon Haven was a thriving medieval port but for centuries now the Haven channel has been little more than an extension of Burstwick Drain. Sluices such as this one, a precursor to modern day tidal barriers, were built to prevent too much water flowing back upstream and destroying farmland and homes during particularly high tides.
