Chillingworth Mews
Chillingworth Mews
A new collection of houses have been endowed with the address of Chillingworth Mews. This is, as a plaque illustrates, in honour of Dr William Chillingworth - the designer of a siege machine that was destroyed in the Siege of Gloucester of 1643. The event is commemorated in the childrens' rhyme of Humpty Dumpty. However, the original verses were:

'Humpty Dumpty fell in a beck,
with all his sinews round his neck,
forty surgeons and forty knights,
couldn't put Humpty Dumpty to rights.'
