SX5663 : Boundary stone by the roadside

taken 5 years ago, near to Wotter, Devon, Great Britain

Boundary stone by the roadside
Boundary stone by the roadside
The stone is inscribed SM 1835. From evidence given regarding a nearby stone called Emmet's Post, this would appear to be a boundary marker between the land of Sir Massey Lopes, Shaugh Moor, this side, and Lord Morley, Lee Moor, that side. The other side is slightly different, see SX5663 : Roadside stone with a view
Beyond, moorland dips gently towards the Blacka Brook
