Lymington: Olympic gold postbox
The Royal Mail undertook to paint gold a postbox in the home town of every gold medallist at the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, but in the case of sailor Ben Ainslie, they chose a box in Cornwall, where he grew up, rather than here in Lymington where he lives. However, a local took matters into his own hands when he painted this one gold, only for the Royal Mail to repaint it red.
However, Royal Mail backtracked having spoken to Ben Ainslie, and agreed to paint it themselves in gold. So here it is.
See SZ3295 : Lymington: postbox № SO41 49, High Street for a view of the box in its more usual colour.
