Lock 42, Trent and Mersey Canal
Lock 42, Trent and Mersey Canal
A view looking southeast at lock 42. These locks, along with others in this area were duplicated in the 1830's in order to speed up the passage of commercial traffic. The colour of the water is due to the leaching of iron ore into the water in the Harecastle tunnel a few hundred yards away
