NJ8562 : Ancient and more modern aerial systems

taken 11 years ago, near to Towie, Aberdeenshire, Great Britain

Ancient and more modern aerial systems.
Ancient and more modern aerial systems.
These aerials provided a civilian and military service which was at its keenest during the Cold War and the "imminent" arrival of the Russians. The system was operated by RAF Buchan, a former RAF fighter control facility. You could be forgiven for thinking that the system in the foreground was modelled on a whisky still and was powered by steam!!
