The Glynrhonwy Quarries from Fachwen
The Glynrhonwy Quarries from Fachwen
This photograph gives a good overview of the subjects photographed for this square. The quarries shown, starting top right, are;
1. Cook & Ddol - the crater-like pit on the left being Y Ddol.
2. Glynrhonwy Upper - being separated from Glynrhonwy Lower by the road causeway. The Glynrhonwy Upper consists of the dramatic top pit, and the lower, crescent shaped pit next to the road.
3. Lower Glynrhonwy. Of the three pits below the road, only the large lake-filled pit immediately below the road has not been infilled.
The Ffridd Incline also stands out well, from the top drumhouse on the skyline
to the 2nd pitch at Cook & Ddol. Below the road it, too, has been erased by reclamation work.
On the left of the photograph are the Twll Coch workings and, top right, the pit of Bwlch-y-groes Quarry.
