Dowally Hydro-Electric Scheme - in operation
Water, having turned the turbine, returns to Dowally Burn.
A steady drizzle providing ideal conditions for the production of electricity.
Dowally Hydro-Electric Scheme
This is a 'run-of-river' scheme where water is extracted from the Dowally Burn at an old abandoned dam, the intake; carried down the hillside alongside the watercourse in a pipeline or penstock; to the powerhouse housing the turbine, generator, transformer and switching units with a connection to the national grid; and finally the water returns to the burn in the tailrace.
This scheme passes from NO0148 through NO0147 to NO0047 .
