The picture was taken facing away from Witney and towards Brize Norton from the road bridge over the railway on the A4095 north of Lew, Oxon. The stretch of line from Witney station to Bampton and Brize Norton station on the old Fairford branch line was 3.75 miles (6 km) long and was the longest distance between stations on the line.
