The Mill, Holderness Road
The Mill, Holderness Road
East Hull's famous landmark looking a bit worse for wear after the January gales. The mill buildings are now a pub (rather unsurprisingly called 'The Mill') with the windmill itself used as a cellar but the pub has been temporarily closed since recent storm damage left the listed building structurally unsafe.

A blue heritage plaque on the front of the mill reads: "In a cottage near this his grandfather's mill was born JOSEPH RANK 1854-1943, founder of the milling firm of Joseph Rank Ltd.". The flour milling company is still in business as Rank Hovis McDougall (RHM), and Joseph's son Joseph Arthur grew up to become a famous film producer and founder of the Rank Organisation, now known as The Rank Group Plc.
