Mudeford, from the Spit
Mudeford, from the Spit
A view across the tidal race that separates Mudeford from Mudeford Spit, as it appeared in 1950. The tide race could be crossed by ferry: at that time, this consisted of a large rowing boat propelled by an aged oarsman, who stood up in the boat facing forwards as his dozen or so passengers gripped the sides of the boat with white knuckles hoping that their sixpence had not bought them a passage into the next world.
