The Cenotaph and Memorial Gardens, Rochdale, Lancashire
In 1951 the gardens had only recently been laid out and had not reached full maturity. The white building to the right is the Post Office, and behind it the Hippodrome, by then a cinema. Centre left is seen the ornate Salvation Army citadel, with one or two motor coaches parked nearby. The saloon bus in the foreground belongs to Rochdale Corporation, and will be waiting time before taking up position on its stand in front of the Post Office, for Castleton via Deeplish, (Route No.1 because it was the first bus service introduced by the Corporation back in the 1920s).
