SH5660 : Y Ddol pit

Y Ddol pit
Y Ddol pit
This view is taken from the narrow causeway which separates the Ddol and Cook pits. It would be all too easy to get carried away with the photography and step back into the Cook pit!!. It is certainly not a place for those prone to vertigo. This photograph manages to show only about a half of the depth of the Cook pit. Getting nearer to the action would be risky because of the unstable nature of parts of the edge. Access to the bottom of the pit was by means of the 'lefal' (tunnel) from the middle section of the Ffridd Incline.
