NR9229 : Cnoc Ballygown - fort (unfinished)

taken 15 years ago, near to Shiskine, North Ayrshire, Great Britain

Cnoc Ballygown - fort (unfinished)
Cnoc Ballygown - fort (unfinished)
This prominent hilltop is ringed with a low earthwork, said to mark an unfinished fort (presumably thought to be Iron Age). It looks much more like an enclosure of Neolithic date (think Windmill Hill, or Knap Hill, both Wilts). Compare with a 'real' hillfort nearby at The Doon, Blackwaterfoot.
