Ellenroad Engine House - steam engine parts
Ellenroad Engine House - steam engine parts
Just some of the surviving components of the 1884 Buckley & Taylor horizontal twin tandem compound engine from Fern Mill, Shaw. These have been stored in the open for many years at various sites and have recently been depleted by metal thieves who have carried off anything portable. Despite the loss of many parts, a large crack in the crankshaft and the poor state of some components, the Trust intend to rebuild this engine with the aim of getting it back into steam. This is a huge task and although it is no worse than many a 'Barry wreck' locomotive, it will be the biggest restoration of its type in the stationary steam field. The picture shows both low pressure cylinders, a segment of flywheel, the crankshaft and flywheel boss, and the second motion gear.
