Improvement works were carried out here between autumn 2011 and summer 2012. Previously, the causeway leading to the pier and ferry berth looked like this NR6946 : Tayinloan: approaching the Gigha ferry . Its solid structure contributed to the build up of sand around the slipway, causing problems for the ferry operation to Gigha. The new causeway incorporates a section of bridge, which should allow sand to pass beneath it and on up the coast by longshore drift. A pedestrian walkway has also been provided.
