John Ruskin in Glen Finglas
John Ruskin was a Victorian art critic, social thinker, poet and author. He was also a supporter of the Pre-Raphaelite artist, John Everett Millais. The young painter accompanied Ruskin and his wife, Effie, on a trip to Scotland. They stayed at Brig O'Turk and Millais painted Ruskin's portrait beside Finglas Water, part of Glen Finglas Estate. The site is down stream of the dam, completed in 1965, and still accessible.
