Hedge and field on Gander Down
Hedge and field on Gander Down
Gander Down is crossed by various medieval trackways, some of which survive as 'hollow ways' sunk into the chalky soil. The bank in the field on the left may well be part of one of these hollow ways that once connected Winchester to the south east. The barn is one of the few buildings in this grid square.
