Ancient aggregate field system, Ganderdown Farm
Ancient aggregate field system, Ganderdown Farm
The grassy fields in this view are part of a scheduled ancient monument. The scheduling describes them as a bell barrow, bowl barrow and regular aggregate field system immediately east of Ganderdown Farm (the building on the far right). The field system is of probable Iron Age date although it may have continued in use through the Romano-British period. The low sunlight shows up the earthworks, as well as some of the medieval 'hollow ways' that cross the site.
