The Barbican Gate from the west
This archway, the former grand entrance to the now demolished Tollymore House, is now the main vehicle access to Tollymore Forest Park.
The Barbican Gate
Built around 1780, to a design by the architect Thomas Wright, the gate marked the entrance to the main drive leading to Tollymore House, the home of the Earls of Roden. When the estate was privately owned, the gate was permanently manned, with the gatekeeper living in a cottage attached to the gate.
