SK4262 : View over fields

taken 11 years ago, near to Pilsley, Derbyshire, Great Britain

View over fields
View over fields
This photograph shows that good land reclamation can be effective.
Before the 1960-70 land reclamation scheme this view was of a deep railway cutting and sidings leading to the Pilsley Colliery.
On the horizon, instead of the now gentle, grassy slope, black waste heaps from the mine workings dominated the horizon.

This view is looking in a north-westerly direction and was taken from a position a few metres south-west of a SK4262 : Bus Shelter on SK4262 : Station Road.

At the far end of the field it is possible to make out a gap in the hedge that leads to a second field and another hedge beyond. To see a photograph looking back to this viewpoint from near to the second hedge, click here SK4262 : Field.
