SP1258 : Watermill Sluice Gate Lock Mechanism

near to Walcot, Warwickshire, Great Britain

Watermill Sluice Gate Lock Mechanism
Watermill Sluice Gate Lock Mechanism
This iron mechanism allows the sluice gate to be locked in place once it has been raised. The iron stirrup has a protruding pin on its rear face. When the sluice gate is raised the pin is pushed into one of the holes in the metal plate on the actual sluice gate, preventing it from falling down. The stirrup seems to be of some age but the sluice gate and its metal plate are more recent replacements.
