The Christmas markets first arrived in Manchester in 1998, when the council of Frankfurt hosted a small traditional German market of just 17 stalls in St Annís Square.

Now an annual event, the 2012 Christmas Market has an array of over 200 stalls spread across Albert Square, The Corn Exchange, Brazenose Street, King Street, St Ann's Square, Exchange Street, New Cathedral Street, Exchange Square and Piccadilly operating from 17th November to 23rd December.

The theme in Exchange Square is "incredible edibles" LinkExternal link Manchester City Council.
