Western edge of The Noads, New Forest
The Noads is (or are?) an area of old woodland (oak, holly, yew) surrounded by heathland and coniferous inclosures. It has been suggested that place-names in the south of England that feature 'Noad' imply a beacon site (from the middle English), inter-visible with others. On the Isle of Wight there is a Nodes Farm and Nodes Point, perhaps visible from here. This is a view of the western edge of the woodland from the boggy heathland, with the usual bracken and silver birch.
