Armada Commemorative Beacon - Danbury
Armada Commemorative Beacon - Danbury
In 1988, hundreds of beacons were lit around the country to mark the four hundredth anniversary of the first Spanish armada. Each was built on high ground to enable a signal to be transmitted across the country. Apparently a simlar system was used in the 16th century to warn of an ememy's approach.

In the background of this photograph is Danbury's Sports & Social Centre.
