Icy Ruts
Icy Ruts
When uploading this shot of ice-covered ruts across a field, I noticed that the 1:25,000 map marks a disused mine among the trees it leads to. I looked up the 1916 edition of the 25-inch Ordnance Survey Map, and sure enough, there was a mine up here. The 25-inch map labels it as a shale mine, but other records suggest that it was in fact Ochiltree No 1 coal mine. Had I had this information to hand, and had there been enough light to investigate, I might have found the remains described here LinkExternal link
