Vale P.S.A. Memorial
"'Erimus'
-------
Erected by the 'Vale' P.S.A.
in loyal memory of the founder
the Rev Thompson Dickie.
-------
Keep sweet, keep silent, keep stepping."

P.S.A. = "Pleasant Sunday Afternoon". See the Vale of Leven website link given at Link for more on that movement.

As for the minister, Thompson Dickie, he died in 1939, aged 33. His obituary appears in the Glasgow Herald issue of 28 April of that year. According to that article, he had the charge of Renfield Street Church Mission (Glasgow) as a student, and "later went as a student assistant to Alexandria Parish Church, Vale of Leven. In Alexandria he founded a P.S.E. meeting, which became so popular that it had to be held in the former Argyll Motor Works". (P.S.E. = "Pleasant Sunday Evening". Also mentioned above are the NS3979 : Former Alexandria Parish Church and the NS3880 : The former Argyll Motor Works.)

In 1937, he was transferred to Tron St Anne's Church in Glasgow; he was the minister there at the time of his death.
