The 'Crinkle' refers to one of the knolls of the mountain, Crinkle Crags, which lies between Eskdale and Great Langdale; the numbering in this case is counting from the south! The stretch of level ground is seen from the north with the First Crinkle being behind the camera position. The distant mountains are those of the Coniston group.
