The white sheeting surrounds one of two guillotine lock gates. The canal is crossed by a cofferdam that keeps the water out of the lock chamber while it is being worked. Alongside is moored a preserved working boat with a Lister diesel engine. This was an official site open day to allow the public the chance to work through a lock chamber.
