taken 11 years ago, near to Rievaulx, North Yorkshire, England

Rievaulx: the abbey
Rievaulx: the abbey
This magnificent ruin stands in a wonderful setting in the Rye valley, and its beauty is easily appreciable on a cloudless winter day such as today.

One of the largest such sites in Britain, the abbey was founded in 1132 and destroyed by Henry VIII in the reformation, in 1538.
