Offshore Reef, Fairlight
Rip Rap or Rock armour is used extensively around the coastline as a defence against coastal erosion. It consists of piling large boulders on top of each other to create a reef. Sometimes they are piled up against a sea wall. They work by absorbing wave energy. Often the boulders are granite or another tough rock.
