A heavy sea at St Abbs
The east coast of Scotland was hit by a storm in the early hours of Saturday 15th December 2012. When I arrived at St Abbs at 11.00am the conditions had abated but the outer harbour was still closed to pedestrians and some spectacular waves were crashing against the foreshore. The storm was caused by the combination of a high spring tide, low pressure, sea state and strong winds. Infrastructure along the northeast coast suffered extensive damage but North Berwick was also affected with an estimated £500,000 worth of damage to boats and the harbour wall.
