T' Ship Steean (The Ship Stone)
T' Ship Steean (The Ship Stone)
Estimated to weight 1,500 tons this massive boulder (see my nine year old for scale) rests high up the isolated valley of Tripsdale. An inscription in Latin:
"DEI PLENA SUNT OMNIA, JOANNES CERVUS, BILVALLENSIS. ANNO MDCCCXLIX"
which translates as
"All things are full of the Creator, John Hart, a man of Bilsdale. 1849"
John Hart was apparently a schoolteacher who lived in Bilsdale.
