Peat restoration, Bleaklow
Peat restoration, Bleaklow
The Moors for the Future Partnership LinkExternal link (Archive LinkExternal link ) are attempting to reduce erosion on Bleaklow and elsewhere by seeding denuded peat areas with grass from a helicopter. Although in the interim it ends up looking like something from the Tellytubbies, it seems to be working - compare this picture with SK1096 : Denuded peat, Bleaklow, of an unseeded area taken from the same spot in a different direction. Meanwhile heather burning - presumably managed - is taking place in the distance on Derwent Edge.
