Lodgehouse for Dumfries House
Lodgehouse for Dumfries House
Dumfries House was built between 1754-9 for William Dalrymple, 4th Earl of Dumfries by John, Robert and James Adam. It is now owned by the Marquess of Bute who has decided to sell it. At the time of submission there was concern that the unique collection of Chippendale furniture in the house might be dispersed unless the house was purchased by NTS or others. However, in June 2007 HRH The Prince of Wales as Great Steward of Scotland, headed a consortium of charities and heritage bodies to buy this unique house, its contents and adjoining land order to keep this historical jewel intact and accessible to the public.
