The Wooden Spoon, Downton
The Wooden Spoon, Downton
This is one of the newer inns of Downton, built in the late 18th century, and appropriately named the New Inn. In the 1960s it was taken over by Whitbreads, and they wished to rename it. At this time there was much local dispute and stirring up of feelings, so they decided upon the name of the Wooden Spoon. As far as the landlord knows, it is the only public house of this name in the country.
