Sulhamstead Lock, Kennet and Avon Canal
Sulhamstead Lock, Kennet and Avon Canal
One of the many locations where the meandering River Kennet (right) has been straightened by a canal section (left) and the river gradient overcome with a lock, in this case Sulhamstead Lock. The grid square clearly shows the meandering course of the river and the straighter canal course with the lock at the downstream end.
