Crossmichael station (remains), 1986
View NW, towards Stranraer on the 'Ports Line', before 1923 jointly owned by the Glasgow & South Western, London & North Western and Midland Railways as the Portpatrick & Wigtownshire Railway, the Dumfries - Stranraer main line that was a misconceived 'Beeching' closure. The station and line (Dumfries - Challoch Junction) was abandoned from 14/6/65. However, the station house here was restored privately (cf. NX7266 : Crossmichael Station House) and in 1986 was 'in transition'.
