An afternoon’s autumnal stroll near Hardwick Hall in Derbyshire.

There are two possible starting points to this walk, the first is from the Hardwick Hall car park and the second is from a free car park at Rowthorne Lane, about 1½ km away. Both car parks are on the route of the walk and, since the route is circular, one can start in either.

This photograph was taken on the main drive about 100 metres north-east from the car park that services Hardwick Hall.

Coming in from the left (50 metres or so ahead) is the SK4664 : Visitors’ drive to Hardwick Hall from Stainsby Mill.
Ahead, along the tree-lined avenue, is the original main drive to the house.

The walk continues in a north-easterly (ahead) direction along the original main drive.
