Thinktank - Galloway uniflow engine
This horizontal single cylinder uniflow was built in 1924 by W & J Galloway, Manchester used by Hovis at Macclesfield. The cylinder is 12.5" x 26" and it developed 64 horsepower at 200 rpm. It is a technological tour de force with oil hydraulic valve gear, automatic compression relief, pressure lubrication, electric stop motion, eccentric bolt overspeed trip and a flexible rear cylinder support.

From a technological viewpoint, this is one of my favourite engines (size isn't everything) and I was once honoured by being allowed to help start it by operating the steam valves by hand - quite tricky and tiring.
