Old marsh bank at West Walton
Old marsh bank at West Walton
To west (right of picture) runs the River Nene, tight between man-made banks. In the 19th century, the river ran a varying and erratic course. The old banking in the picture is all that remains of an early attempt to confine the course of the river and drain the marsh.
