Fletcher Bank Quarry

Stone was extracted from this quarry in 1876 to build SD7915 : The Spinnings Brooksbottoms Mill
I took this picture from a distance to highlight the rock formation.
Today the quarry produces approximately 500-600,000 tonnes of aggregate and related products each year.
The quarry currently has planning permission for the extraction of gritstone reserves.
However the majority of these reserves have now been worked and present quarrying operations are progressing in a southwards direction along the eastern boundary of the quarry.
A major concrete products factory,in the southern half of the site SD7916 : Ramsbottom utilises a significant proportion of the aggregate extracted from the quarry.
The factory produces a huge range of concrete products, including kerbstones and flags and is in permanent industrial use employing approximately 150 people.
